Mirch Masala

Mirch Masala had been on my wish list ever since my friend Ketan recommended it, and his recommendations rarely fail for me. So finally, last Sunday we were at Mirch Masala with few friends for a leisurely dinner. Sunday evening and very less waiting, around 5 minutes was a breather! We reached sort of early, and found space for parking our 2-wheelers.

Mirch Masala is an unassuming garden restaurant in Kothrud. They have outdoor as well as indoor sitting area. The have decorated the outside area using Chinese lanterns and tokri lamps. The indoor area having AC is decorated in sober fashion. We were allocated a table in indoor area. As we settled, the captain gave us a menu card. It was subtle and organized.

Mirch Masala is one the few places in Kothrud which serve liquor and yet has a majority of family based customers which gives a warm and social feeling. They have a Well-stocked bar. We ordered Beer and Mock tails. Peanuts, papad and green chutney (this was good in taste) were served with the Beer. The Mock tails were pretty good and were served well. The “Blue Island” and “green fairy” mock tails are worth trying out.

In the starters, as per the Captain’s suggestions, we ordered Surmai Butter Garlic. It is Boneless surmai pieces sautéed in mild garlic and butter sauce. It was served with salad tossed in vinegar, flower-shaped carrots and radishes. It was pretty good in taste, served nicely and in a way big portion.

We also ordered Masala Papad. They had put boiled potato over the papad along with the regular onion and tomato masala topping. It was yummy to taste, similar to chat items.

In main course, we preferred Veg. So we ordered Veg. Kothmiri, butter Rumali Paratha.
We loved the flavor of veg. Kothmiri. It had vegetables cooked in thick buttery coriander gravy with little pepper and cream; just perfect for a winter dinner.  Buttered Rumali Paratha was very soft and prepared very neatly. Don’t miss to order this next time you are here.
The staff was humble, responsive and cordial. The Captain suggested us the dishes as per our liking. The service is quick; they won’t make you wait longer for your food. The Food is tasty and reasonably priced.

Overall, Mirch Masala has great quality tasty food, lovely ambiance and courteous staff.
If you stay near Kothrud, I would recommend this place to go for casual weekend dinner with family and friends.
