Ulsoor Lake – A Majestic Heaven inside the Towering City

Our trip to Ulsoor Lake on a lazy Sunday afternoon was totally unplanned. We went to a Commercial Street on a Sunday Morning for Happy Streets event and since Ulsoor Lake is quite close, we thought of making a quick visit.

Ulsoor Lake is situated at the heart of the city of Bangalore. The lake has very limited parking space. It is surrounded by main road on all sides. We took an auto from MG Road and reached the Boating Club Gate of Ulsoor Lake.

Spread over an area of approximately 1.5 square kilometers, the beauty of the lake is enhanced by the presence of several islands doting it. Ulsoor Lake is surrounded by abundant greenery and creates an atmosphere of serenity. The lake is open from 5 AM in the morning to 7:30 PM in the evening, with a brief break during the noon.

There is a boat club here which facilitates enjoyable boating experience for all the visitors. We enjoyed half an hour of paddle-boating in the fresh air below the blue skies. The charges were Rs. 150 for a four-seater paddle-boat. While we were boating in the lake, we spotted many species of birds.

The lake is very rich in flora and fauna. It was really easy to spot common heron, purple swamphen, brahmani kites, cranes, little black cormorant and myna. The bushes around the lake are filled with wild flowers and that is home to hundreds of different types of insects.

There is a well-built walking track and benches laid around the lake covered by the greenery. People can sit and relax in the nature’s lap here. After our boating, we sat on one of the benches over-looking the lake enjoying the ice-creams, which we purchased from the snacks shop located at the entrance of the lake.

A trip to the lake is an ideal way to spend a relaxed day in the company of friends and family and enjoy a refreshing break from the monotonous daily routine.
